Wild vines already grew on the banks of the river Tarn during prehistoric times, and they have been cultivated since the first century A.D. In the tenth century, under the influence of the Benedictines, Gaillac and its vineyards expanded.
The Técou Cellar, founded in 1953, is made up of about one hundred producers spread over 900 hectares of vineyards. Two-thirds are situated on the gravelly terraces of the left bank of the river Tarn, well known from the quality of their red wines. The other third are settled on the slopes of the right bank of the river, particularly favourable to the production of aromatic and elegant white wines.
